Veterinary Surgery

We offer a variety of surgical procedures for dogs and cats in our Goleta pet hospital. We use stringent protocols and techniques in all our surgical treatments.

In the course of each veterinary surgery, a dedicated veterinary professional will administer anesthesia and continuously monitor your pet using our electronic patient monitoring equipment. We will also provide pain management throughout.

Post-operative monitoring and pain management are our priorities following surgery. Your vet will also provide thorough instructions for at-home care.

What to Expect from Veterinary Surgery

We will always keep you fully informed about why we are recommending a given procedure for your pet. We will also inform you about any pre- or post-operative care your pet will require at home. Rest assured that we always follow strict safety protocols at our clinic.

Surgical Procedures

At Goleta Airport Pet Hospital, we are proud to be able to perform medical and emergency surgeries to help treat diseases and conditions in your pet, or to repair injuries sustained through physical trauma.

Our Goleta vets routinely perform the following elective and non-elective surgeries:

  • Soft Tissue Surgery

We offer soft tissue surgeries to pets that are suffering from throat, nose and ear disorders.

These procedures are also available for hepatic, urogenital, oncological, cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, and skin disorders.

  • Spaying & Neutering

When spaying or neutering and dog or cat, we surgically sterilize them in order to extend their life expectancy and prevent a whole host of diseases.

  • Mass Removal

Cats and dogs can develop masses associated with the skin. Masses can also grow inside a body cavity and can be serious or life-threatening.

Mass removal surgery is a fairly common procedure for both cats and dogs.

  • Foreign Body

Sometimes, foreign objects are ingested or can get stuck inside a cat's or dog's body.

Whether your pet has eaten an object they shouldn't have or an accident has left them injured, we can perform foreign body surgery to remove it.

Specialized equipment or skills are required in order to perform certain pet surgeries. If we aren't able to provide these to your companion, we may refer your dog or cat to a surgeon in the Goleta area. We will work closely with them to provide the very best integrated care to your beloved pet.

  • Wounds

Wounds occur when living tissue has been cut, broken, burnt, torn, or otherwise damaged.

It's important that your pet's wounds be cleaned and disinfected by a qualified veterinarian in order to ensure proper care and recovery.

  • Urethrectomy

During a urethrectomy, our vets remove all or part of a cat's or dog's ureter.

  • Cystectomy

During a cystectomy, our vets remove a cat's or dog's urinary bladder.

  • Dental Surgery

Our veterinarians provide dental surgeries for dogs and cats. These surgeries can range from tooth extractions to gum disease treatment.

The Surgery Process

We know that the prospect of bringing your pet in for surgery can be a daunting one. Because of this, we want to assure you that we only recommend surgery for your pet when it is in their best interest.

We will ensure that you fully understand why we are recommending veterinary surgery and that you are comfortable making the decision to move ahead.

If your pet needs specialized care, our vets will refer you to a veterinary surgeon in the Goleta area and work closely with them to help ensure that your [et gets the best care possible when they need it most.

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. We will confirm the specifics of the procedure, complete a physical examination of the patient, and make sure blood tests have been completed and reviewed by the vet in order to determine if your pet faces any risk of anesthesia-related complications.

Dedicated surgical suites. We have a dedicated surgical suite in which we perform all of our procedures. This room is kept sterile in order to prevent cross-contamination and infection.

Surgical attire. Our staff always wear disposable caps and masks when they are in our surgical suite. Staff and doctors involved in the procedure will also wear sterile gowns and gloves.

Sterile packs and equipment. We carefully clean, sterilize and wrap our surgical instruments and equipment prior to every surgery.
